Sarah Louise was established in 1969 by Leonard and Diane Given, who originally ran the business from their family home in Liverpool. Over the years the business grew and flourished and today it is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of high quality children’s clothing, with manufacturing facilities in Europe and The Far East and warehouse facilities in the U.K. and U.S.A.
One factor in the success of Sarah Louise is their subtle combination of innovative design and attention to detail. To illustrate, take a look at the following smocked1 baby pink dress with pink and green embroideries and delightful girl’s summer lemon dress by Sarah Louise.

In both cases, a beautiful, innovative design is achieved by subtly balancing colours, shapes and textures with an intricate smocking design which brings the whole dress together.
With the first dress, the lines of the pleats and arms encourage the eye towards the main focal point of the dress – the wonderfully intricate and beautiful smocked chest. There is some mirroring between the collar and cuffs (in colour and shape) and between these and the smocked chest. There is also a subtle use of green smocking across the chest (adorned with pink buttons) which serves to draw the eye deeper into the design.
With the second dress, there is a wonderful blending of greens and yellows with a subtle floral theme to create a lovely summer feel. The pleats in the lower dress encourage the eye towards the intricate and beautiful smocking in the mid-section and there is mirroring between this, the collar and the lower dress (in terms of colour, pattern and line).
Another factor in the success of Sarah Louise is that while pursuing innovative design they have not lost sight of the importance of practicality – all Sarah Louise clothes are made with comfort, durability and functionality in mind. To illustrate, the Sarah Louise girl’s pink romper shown below is both stylish and functional – it is comfortable, durable and has sensibly placed buttons to facilitate nappy changing and dressing / undressing. And the Sarah Louise ivory silk heirloom christening gown shown below is not just outstandingly beautiful and comfortable, it is also so well made that it could be used as an heirloom christening gown for many generations.

One final factor in the success of Sarah Louise is that they never compromise on quality – they only use the best people to design and manufacture their products and accept nothing less than the highest standards. When you buy Sarah Louise you are buying quality.
Notes:
(1) Smocking is a centuries old embroidery technique used to gather fabric to allow stretching and for aesthetic purposes. At Sarah Louise all embroidery is done by hand by highly skilled embroiderers.
